For those who haven’t yet set up a wordpress free blog, i’ll let you in on something very boring. Once you have set up your account, the very first post automatically generated is titled Hello World! Wasn’t really much point in changing that too much except to say hello Dunedin.
At the moment this is the very first stage of what could be a whole new world of cyber-political debate for Dunedin. As it’s still some 20 months away, and considering this is going to be a vigirous fight, there is much to do in way of planning for this venture.
Hope to see you all soon with news and information as to how you can be involved. Since we have the full arsenal of web tools available to us, in this case why not use it (ok I draw the line at MySpace). We can tweet, flickr, blog, Facebook, YouTube, even upload pics and video on the fly, post articles on the fly, comment on the go, why not lets push the boundaries and see how far this medium will go in enabling political debate surrounding the 2010 Dunedin local body elections. If Dunedin is the largest city in the country by geographical reach, lets bring the city a lot closer for everyone.
Everyday reading newspaper blogs about the rapidly declining readerships, I wonder what is the problem with newspapers. After all like the web, they are just a container of information. I love newspapers, but in this day and age, the newspaper needs to evolve to survive. This could be the perfect opportunity to see how far we can push ‘citizen-journalism’.
